Where they live
An introduced subterranean termite established across the Gulf South, coastal Southeast, Texas, parts of California, and Hawaii, and rarely found north of about 35°N. Its colonies are enormous, so damage comes fast.
When they swarm
It swarms at dusk on warm, humid, still evenings from late spring into early summer, the huge flights the New Orleans area is known for around Mother's Day. Swarmers fly to lights by the thousands.
Signs of an infestation
The same mud tubes and discarded wings as native subterraneans, plus carton nests (a chewed-wood-and-soil material) inside walls, and unusually rapid structural damage.
How they're treated
